Modeling of the Atmosphere Magnetosphere Ionosphere System
(MAMI)
Assimilative Mapping of Ionospheric Electrodynamics: AMIE
The
AMIE
(assimilative mapping of ionospheric electrodynamics)
procedure combines measurements from ground based magnetometers,
radars, and satellite observations to form a self-consistent
description of the large scale ionospheric electrodynamics. Where
observations are lacking, statistical models extend coverage over an
entire polar hemisphere. We develope a method to include into this
analysis parameters that can be derived from spectral images of the
aurora from high altitude satellites. From the images that are
obtained by the
UVI
and VIS
instruments onboard
Polar, we will derive
ionospheric conductances at locations where the aurora has sufficient
brightness. These image derived conductances will be included into
the AMIE procedure to show the resulting ionospheric current,
conductance, and convection patterns.
