Red Patch

Aurora in the magnetic zenith appears as a corona. The Plejades are seen near the bottom half of the image (Canon Powershot G2, Nov 2002)
Zenith
Looking up the field lines, the upper part of the auroral curtains appears red (towards the right in this image), the bottom part is green (Canon Powershot G2, Nov 2002)
Full Moon
The full moon illuminates snow covered trees. Inspite of the bright moon, the aurora shows up nicely in the clear sky. This is rare, however, as the slightest moonlit haze will obscure aurora. Note how much brighter (and blue rather than black) the sky is compared to the other images (Canon Powershot G2, Dec 2002)
