Michael A. Danielides, Post Doctoral Fellow; Freie Universität Berlin (Berlin, Germany), `95, B.Sc., `98, M.Sc. (Dipl.-Phys.) in low-temperature physics and nano technology; University of Oulu (Oulu, Finland), `05, Ph.D. in space physics. Dr. Danielides joined the Geophysical Institute in May 2006. His major research interests are modeling of ionospheric processes related to the auroral phenomena and multi-instrument studies of small-scale auroral structures.  In his current work he investigates the physics of vertical and horizontal neutral winds above auroral filaments located in the auroral oval. This work is related to magnetospheric-ionospheric coupling plasma processes.

Other interests include small scale auroral electro-dynamics and he developed a new method to estimate field-aligned current densities from ground-based measurable geophysical parameters. Dr. Danielides is an individual member of the European Physical Society (EPS), a member of the German Physical Society (DPG) and the American Geophysical Union (AGU).

Doctoral Thesis: M.A. Danielides, Multi-Instrumental Auroral Case-Studies at Substorm Conditions, Report Series in Physical Sciences, No. 34, ISBN 951-42-7846-1, 2005.
